However, Turner's marriage to Ike Turner was also abusive. In 1978, she left him and filed for divorce.

Solo Career

After her divorce, Turner launched a successful solo career. Her first solo album, "Private Dancer," was released in 1984. The album was a huge success, selling over 20 million copies worldwide. It spawned the hit singles "What's Love Got to Do with It," "Better Be Good to Me," and "We Don't Need Another Hero."

Turner continued to release successful albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s. She also starred in the Broadway musical "The Color Purple" in 1993.

Retirement

Turner retired from music in 2000. She moved to Switzerland and lived a quiet life. However, she continued to make occasional public appearances.
